A bill to ban abortions based on the gender of the fetus fails to muster the two-thirds majority necessary to pass in the House, following a contentious debate. The final vote was 246-168, falling 30 votes short of the two-thirds majority needed to pass.
The bill takes aim at the aborting of female fetuses. That’s a practice prevalent in countries such as India and China, but also believed to take place here in the U.S.
Fox News reports that. “the mainly Republican supporters of the bill characterized the vote as a sex-discrimination issue at a time when Democrats are accusing Republicans of waging a war on women.”
